Version 0.1.1 - The First Bug Fix Update!

Hey everybody!

If you've already downloaded The Last Utopi after yesterday's nighttime upload, I want to say a big thank you. This game is the first 3D first person project I've worked on in a long time. It is also my first crack at the psx style, so any interest and support means quite a lot!

In my playthrough of last night's build this morning, I discovered two bugs. One minor bug, and one major, game breaking bug.

Here's the rundown:

  1. Tutorial Text Bug

In the tutorial, when Eli asks you if you'd like him to repeat any of the topics he covered, one of the options says "Pausing." I was going to implement a pause menu prior to the jam, but things got so hectic that I ended up cutting that feature. So I went back and switched the "Pausing" text to say "Crouching," as that option rerouted to Eli explaining the crouch mechanic anyways.

  1. "Inventory? What Inventory?!" Bug

After observing the PC monitor on the customer service desk, your inventory would no longer be accessible. That was down to switching a simple bool from "false" to "true." This was a major game breaking bug if you were to observe the monitor early on in the experience, so for anyone who downloaded last night's build, I apologize and highly encourage that you download today's update!

Those are the two fixes I immediately saw as necessary to make for today's early morning build. There are still visual updates I'd like to make to this project, so stay tuned for that!

Thank you for your interest and for playing The Last Utopi.

I think The Last Utopi is a good, solid game with some real meat to it, largely thanks to the story introduction (and ending). While I wasn’t particularly afraid, I was fascinated and a little tentative throughout. After a while of playing I realized that taking items requires you to be at a bit of a distance, but once I learned that, it wasn’t an issue. In many ways, The Last Utopi is an exploration/mystery-solving game, and the story is thankfully detailed enough to support a mystery. There are multiple endings, so there’s a reason to play through a second time if you’re interested. I enjoyed my time with the game, mostly due to its story.

Thank you for playing! I notice walk speed was mentioned as an issue in your playthrough - I totally agree. I'm pushing an update very soon (hopefully tonight or tomorrow) to address that, making walk speed much faster. I appreciate your thorough comment and am really glad you enjoyed the story!
